The Neighborhoods of La Jolla
La Jolla real estate consists of a variety of wonderful neighborhoods ranging from clifftop residences to homes within the village’s picturesque downtown area.
La Jolla Farms refers to the neighborhood of homes that reside on top of cliffs above the area’s Black’s Beach and are next to the western boundary of the University of California, San Diego campus.
La Jolla Shores is a thriving residential area as well as the home to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus. The homes and campus are scattered along La Jolla Shores beach and east up the hillside. La Jolla Shores also boasts a small but growing business district of shops and restaurants along the Avenida de la Playa.
La Jolla Heights is the neighborhood of homes overlooking La Jolla Shores. Those looking into La Jolla real estate may find this area particularly appealing because there are no businesses in the La Jolla Heights neighborhood.
Hidden Valley, a neighborhood as charming as its name, represents homes in the lower portion of the area’s Mount Soledad on the northern slopes. Like La Jolla Heights, this neighborhood has no businesses within its borders.
La Jolla’s Country Club neighborhood represents homes in lower Mount Soledad on the northwest side. As its name suggests, this area also includes the well-known La Jolla Country Club golf course.
Next is the Village of La Jolla, also known as simply “the Village.” This part of La Jolla includes the downtown business district area, which includes most of the community’s shops and restaurants, as well as surrounding residential areas.
Beach-Barber Tract is the coastal section that stretches from Windansea Beach to the Village. There are a few scattered shops and restaurants, mostly on what is known as La Jolla Boulevard.
Lower Hermosa is the coastal strip that lies south of Beach-Barber Tract. There are no businesses in this area – only homes. From here you can find Upper Hermosa north of Bird Rock, and east of La Jolla Boulevard.
Southern La Jolla along the coast is where one will find the neighborhood of Bird Rock. The lower slopes of Mount Soledad are also located in this area, as well as a number of shops and restaurants along La Jolla Boulevard.
The Murilands is a fairly large area situated on the western middle slope of Mount Soledad. Only homes adorn the area – there are no businesses. Murilands West is another neighborhood located between Murilands to the south, and Country Club to the North.
La Jolla Mesa is a strip on the lower southern side of Mount Soledad that borders the beautiful coastline of Pacific Beach. East of La Jolla Mesa is the neighborhood of La Jolla Alta. Soledad South is east of La Jolla Alta, and is situated on the southeastern slopes of Mount Soledad.
Lastly is La Jolla Village, which is not to be confused with the Village of La Jolla (above). La Jolla Village is located northeast of La Jolla, east of La Jolla Heights, north and west of Interstate 5, and south of the University of California, San Diego. La Jolla Village is famous for its namesake, The La Jolla Village Square shopping and residential mall, which includes La Jolla’s two movie theaters.
The beautiful and distinct neighborhoods of La Jolla are the main reason why La Jolla real estate is one of the most lucrative markets in the San Diego area. |
