A simply breathtaking seaside resort community would aptly describe La Jolla of San Diego, California. Home to approximately 43,000 residents, the community resides just inside the city of San Diego. La Jolla extends north to the Torrey Pines State Reserve and Del Mar, California, and the area borders Pacific Beach to the south.
La Jolla real estate is immensely popular, particularly for its picturesque neighborhoods such as Bird Rock, Windansea, The Village of La Jolla, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Farms, Torrey Pines, Mount Soledad, and La Jolla Village. The Village of La Jolla includes what is known as “downtown La Jolla,” known for its charming La Jolla Village Square.
The popularity of La Jolla real estate is also related to the fact that the community is located within one of the most sought after cities in the entire nation: San Diego.
To the east of La Jolla is Interstate 5, which forms a man-made border to the community. There is also the University of California, San Diego as well as commercial property situated to the east of La Jolla.

The Jewel of California
The name La Jolla is a Spanish word meaning "the jewel." The beautiful community of La Jolla, without a doubt, is deserving of its name. The derivation however of the La Jolla town name actually stems from a Native American tribe the La Jolla band of Luiseno Indians. The tribe inhabited La Jolla real estate for several centuries before the arrival of the Spanish.
Residents of La Jolla often refer to their home area as the city, village, or simply "town of La Jolla." Interestingly enough, although some La Jolla addresses lie within the San Diego city limits, the U.S. postal service has officially designated La Jolla as the only acceptable name for use in mailing addresses for the zip codes that cover the area. Such a convention gives many people the impression that La Jolla is its own separate incorporated city, even though it is technically a part of the City of San Diego.
